Interested in getting involved with Formula SAE at UK? You can find everything you need to know to get started below.

Who: UK FSAE is open to all majors, but you must be a full time student to participate, per competition rules. We have freshman, sophomores, juniors, seniors, and even graduate students on the team and we encourage participation regardless of your exposure to the automotive industry, manufacturing, mechanics skills, motorsports, etc. This is a learning experience for all of us! Not an engineering major? Awesome! We also need help with business and marketing, social networking, and photography.

What: Formula SAE is a group of motivated students united by a common goal: to build a successful racecar.

Why: In addition to giving students a venue to apply theory learned in the classroom, participation in Formula SAE offers students enormous and invaluable exposure to the engineering design process. Participating in FSAE will offer you numerous opportunities to improve your group communication, project management, leadership, and presentation skills. You can learn to use new modeling, simulation, and analysis software, how to weld and operate machine tools, or simply how an engine works. After you graduate, participation in Formula SAE is highly sought after in entry level automotive engineering positions.

When & Where: Formal design meetings are held each Thursday at 7:45 PM in Rm. 203 of the Ralph G. Anderson Mechanical Engineering Building. Regular garage days are held each Saturday, beginning usually around 11:00 AM at our garage at the rear of the Terrell Civil Engineering Building.

The Terrell Civil Engineering Building location is shown below. It’s on Graham Ave. behind the Funkhouser Building.
